Grimm Illustrations

Maurice Sendak (1928-2012) was an American illustrator and writer of children’s books. He was best known for his book, Where the Wild Things Are, first published in 1963. Sendak also illustrated hundreds of books. One of his best, The Juniper Tree and Other Tales from Grimm, a collection of Grimm fairy tales, translated by Lore Segal, was published in 1973. For these illustrations, Sendak received a second Caldecott Medal, a rare honor which paid tribute to his versatility and unrivaled consistency as an artist.
