The final one of the BlackBerry Keep Moving videos. This one was filmed last month in the UK, in Regent’s Park, in the St Pancras Hotel, and in Soho, where I had dinner with some of the artists… The end of it is magical.

insouciantly:

You don’t know how long I’ve wanted to / been meaning to share this photograph.

If you remember, ages and ages ago, I was super excited about the Neil Gaiman Calendar of Tales project. We ended up missing the competition because I can’t tell time, but I don’t even care because this turned out so fantastic. If you somehow missed the project as it was happening, you should definitely check it out. (Here’s the post I wrote when I finished the dress.)

This photo is of the scene in January, when 1914 greets 2012 in the place where years go when they’re over. In the background, you can see several of the other years hanging out, enjoying life beyond time.

The photography was done by Sonja of Soulfire Studios (facebook, tumblr). Isn’t it fantastic? Everything feels magical and sort of timeless. (My favorite part is how she got the color of the water to actually match my dress, haha).

2012 is modeled by Matthew Sumner, of Beat Down Boogie.

I think my favorite part of this project is that I didn’t even know half the people I was working with when it all started. I just decided “Hey, I want to do this. I won’t be able to pull it off alone, so I should find some other people who want to do this.” And I sent out a bat signal, and friend of friends of friends responded. And this happened. And it was fantastic. Love of art and love of neil gaiman collide, and cool things happen.

Love this…

About A Calendar of Tales
(sorry in advance for my english)
My son Joachim (10 years old) was intrigued on my drawings for the contest. I explained to him what the contest was, and who wrote the tales. He knows perfectly who Neil Gaiman is, he saw Coraline and I should be damned if I hadn’t read “The Wolves in the Walls” a thousand times to him when he was a little younger. “The wolves” is one of our absolute favourites books ever (it’s funny because the french version of the book is published by one of MY publishers, Delcourt ^^). When a situation is bad or desperate, we took the habit to say “tout est fini, les loups sont sortis des murs” (if the wolves come out of the walls, it’s all over), like in the book. ^^

So I explained briefly what each tale was about. About May, I even shown him 2 different videos made by other participants (very impressive). I translated the monologue for him. I don’t know why, but the May tale TERRIFIED him at first.
He thought it was impossible and awful that things appear like that in a house. I answered  him: but I told you about the October tale too, the one with the genie. It’s impossible as well, however this one didn’t scare you? Besides, these are only letters and notes, even if they appear, they don’t do any harm. But, he said, it’s SO WEIRD!! It was very hard to make him understand he doesn’t have to be afraid, I think it was because the story has no explanation (which is one of the main interests!), while the genie in the October tale is a FACT. ^^
The next day his father decided to make a joke and put in his bedroom’s wall a paper where it was written “things will be back to normal soon” in french (see photo). Jo was surprised when he go back to his room, but he also have a sense of humor and laughed and laughed.
Since then we found several strange notes in the apartment, (written in french with a child writing) and also 3 books in a box. Yesterday evening I found next to my bed a note in an envelope with an alarming message about the situation of my uncle. I have salad in the fridge, but where can I find a pink flower please? …

BEST CALENDAR OF TALES MOMENT EVER.

Overnight, Neil Gaiman tweeted my A Calendar of Tales video:

I’m kind of stunned but also definitely feel really really really good. We worked so hard on this video and were proud enough regardless whether or not it was submitted. My goal was to get to Neil Gaiman to watch it and not only did he watch it but he thought that others had to watch it too and THAT is more than I could have asked for.

Sometimes days start like this.

So wonderful.
5,200 pictures came in. Dozens, even hundreds more missed the deadline, sometimes by minutes. Do not worry about the deadline, or anything other than making art…

Lots of wonderful art didn’t make the deadline. Marianna Palka and Jason Ritter made this beautiful video to the July story. It’s like a rock video to a narrative track. And they missed that it was midday Eastern time. So I am reposting it here. If you like it go and tell them on YouTube…
