“Guardian’s Door”

submission to Neil Gaiman’s ’ A Calendar of Tales’, January.

This is my visual depiction of the scene where XII was one grain away from the safety of retirement and the nasty time monsters were trying to snatch him… I tried not to make it a literal illustration.

This is my favorite part of the story. So much happened in that one second- the emergence of a new time watcher, the changing of the guards. This is why we have daylight savings time. hahaha.

Anyways, I wanna know what happens next, damn it.

I changed the title from ‘Yearglass’ to “Guardian’s Door” cuz i couldn’t think of a title when i was submitting it to Blackberry.

My submission for Neil Gaiman’s A Calendar of Tales.

While reading the story and drawing this, I kept listening to Johnny Cash’s Hurt and it just sounds the story perfectly. Both tells the story of something ending and a new beginning. Nothing lasts forever.

I decided to draw the characters as juveniles because the kind of thought that something will last forever is such a juvenile way of thinking, in my humblest opinion.

I also wanted to add olive wreath on the head of Peter and August to represent their status as the emperor of their own world, but I’m already at the last of my strength…. I’m afraid I might become November…..

Through bloodshot throbbing eyes and fatigue, I hope this piece represents the story well.

The third of the BlackBerry Keep Moving films, shot in LA about ten days ago. Yes, I really am as tired as I look – the day before I did the 13 hour Chu’s Day signing, then flew to LA… But there are such beautiful shots here of the beach and of the birds…

It opens with me reading the end of the February Tale.

So I spent a week working on a drawing for Neil Gaiman’s calendar of tales, and I wasn’t happy with it at all. Then today I just sat down and started drawing and this happened. Instead of focusing on and trying to draw the characters themselves, as I did in the first attempt, this time I focused on something subtly important to the relationship of the characters that inspired me to draw it in the first place: the similarity between the tea pot and the genie’s lamp. And looking at it, I’m really satisfied with how it turned out. So much so that I submitted it, so no turning back now ^^’

This is my submission to the Blackberry Contest off of Neil Gaimans stories called “A Calendar of Tales”. This took forever for me to do. From sketching, to photographing the images and textures, to finally getting some work done in the computer. I hope I win, but looking at the website, there are alot of great artists who have a lot of talent. I’m happy that I got to do this, even if I don’t win.

My girlfriend, Bonnie, left me last night due to distance between us after she moved away to go to school.

This post isn’t about that. This post is about how talented of an artist she is. Bonnie is absolutely incredible. She made this recently for a contest Neil Gaiman had announced, but quickly told me she wouldn’t be submitting it. She isn’t the most confident person when it comes to her work. She can’t really get upset with me since we aren’t speaking; I would never submit it without her permission but I wanted to post this to show you guys how talented she is.

It’s not really about the competition. It’s about making art… And I’m so glad she did.

Looking at the submissions, it seems like a lot of people took the ducks quite literally, but for some reason while I was reading the April Tale I kept thinking of this little scruffy catboy watching his dad slowly lose his clothes playing cards with the mobster ducks whom, up until then, he’d been able to scam so easily.

A Piece made for a #KeepMoving Project - A Calendar of Tales. . It’s an illustration for a February Tale. I read it and immediately had this image in my mind. :)
