This past Saturday @BooksofWonder hosted @NeilHimself & @MrAdamRex as well as hundreds of fans to celebrate Chu’s Day. It was a little cold and rainy out but that did not deter everyone from having an amazing time and getting a chance to meet Neil and Adam. We want to thank everyone that came out and made Saturday an amazing day and an event to remember!

On Saturday, February 23rd, everyone is invited to be part ofChu’s Day at Books of Wonder, as we are all introduced to a baby panda with a monstrous sneeze!
Beginning at noon, NEIL GAIMAN and ADAM REX will sign copies of Chu’s Day and all their other wonderful titles for their numerous fans. Here are the publisher’s guidelines for getting your books signed:* Neil and Adam will personalize an UNLIMITED number of CHU’S DAY purchased from Books of Wonder and will sign up to TWO other NEWLY purchased books.* Neil and Adam will sign ONE beloved book brought from home.* If a customer does NOT have a CHU’S DAY or a NEWLY purchased book of some kind, they will have to go into a second signing line that will go AFTER the first signing line is completed.As a cherry on top what is already a sweet Saturday afternoon, NEIL GAIMAN and ADAM REX would like to show their support for Books of Wonder by pre-signing a special quantity of Limited Edition Chu’s Day Posters which will be available to fans at the event and online for a donation of $15 to Books of Wonder.

ABOUT BOOKS OF WONDER AND OUR CAMPAIGN.
Ever since I first opened Books of Wonder back in 1980, the store has been devoted to promoting a love and devotion to the best children’s books being created today while helping preserve the great children’s books of our child-hoods. Over the past 32 years, Books of Wonder has grown to be a landmark of the New York City landscape, as countless parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians, and all who love great stories and illustration have come to Books of Wonder to find the perfect book for the children they love and meet some of the incredible authors and artists who create these books.There have been many ups and downs over the past three decades, but now we find ourselves facing our biggest challenge yet. Due to an enormous and unexpected expense, Books of Wonder finds its future endangered. If Books of Wonder is to survive, we must raise a minimum of $100,000. With your help, we hope to do just that and keep Books of Wonder open and thrivintg as new York’s premier destination for all those who love children’s books.

When we moved into our current space eight years ago, we leased out 40% of the space to a well-established NYC bakery to provide a cafe for our customers. Unfortunately, the Great Recession was even harder on cupcakes than children’s books and they were forced to close, still owing us many months back rent and utilities. Worse still, with the economy hurting, we could not find a new subtenant, and so had to pay the rent on the space we had previously rented. The result of these unexpected expenses, is that Books of Wonder has had to layout over $300,000 in rent and utilities that we expected to be paid by our subtenant and has strained our resources to the limit. That is why we are launching this campaign.We need to raise a minimum of $100,000 if Books of Wonder is to survive and continue our mission of bringing the magic of reading to children and the irreplaceable value of an independent, community-based bookstore to New York City.
Over the years, Books of Wonder has been fortunate to host many of the most talented authors and artists of children’s books. When we reached out to them for help with our campaign, their enthusiastic response was overwhelming. Thanks to their immense generosity and talent, we have assembled a wonderful collection of thank you gifts for those who contribute to our campaign – many of which are exclusive to this effort and some of which are truly one-of-a-kind. We have put a lot of effort into making sure that our thank you gifts are representative of how much your support means to us and the type of place Books of Wonder has always been and aspires to continue to be.
THE FUTURE OF BOOKS OF WONDER.
This is a crucial moment for Books of Wonder and we know we can come out of this campaign stronger and ready to face the challenges of the future. Everyone here at Books of Wonder is passionate about children’s books and loves sharing that passion with the thousands of children and adults who visit us each year from around the New York City area and around the world.Your contributions today will make it possible for Books of Wonder to be here for many more tomorrows.
