Coraline is coming back into cinemas, in remastered 3D and in 2D, in August. Worldwide. Find out more, get tickets and suchlike at coraline.com…
YES!!!!!
But nope to the 3D. That’s a gag. And there’d better not be any of that: “We added an extra X minutes of-“ nonsense either.
Actually the 3D version of Coraline is widely thought to be the best use of 3D in a movie. It’s used to add depth for storytelling purposes. If you have a chance to see the 3D version and you have the kinds of eyes and brain that work for 3D then absolutely see it. It’s outstanding.
The remastering hasn’t added any footage, but it has increased the information levels in the original master versions.

hello!! how are you going!!! as a kid when i read coraline i didnt even realise it wasnt a proper name and got confused with caroline for ages, i didnt see anything wrong with the name coraline. i was a kid but still, did not realise it wasnt normal. its a much nicer name though in my opinion. good choice :))
Thank you.
When I wrote the book it wasn’t a name. These days it is.
It was already a name in France before the book:
(I’d looked this up because I was on the phone with a Coraline in her 30s for work and I knew she couldn’t be named after Neil’s character)
Absolutely (and the French version is pronounced Coraline, to rhyme with Moral Queen).
It was also popular as a word in the Nineteenth century, when there were Coraline Corsets.
Also, I found sheet music on eBay about 20 years ago for a Victorian “Coraline” song, a dead girlfriend song like “Oh My Darling Clementine”, but can’t find the song anywhere on the web right now. (If you find it, please link on the thread.)

neil do you think Coraline deserves its rating? 🤔🎤 my friend who’s terrified of the movie (she’s almost an adult btw) recently enlightened me that it’s PG (not even PG-13!!!!!) and i was flabbergasted
It definitely deserves its rating. A G would have given the wrong message to the world.
Sounds like the kind of thing I would do, yes.
Neil, if you had social media, more people would know this and you’d have so much more time for activities.
In a way, tumblr is the Other World.
You know you want it. Other Mother’s Day presents from Laika…
Jill Thompson is auctioning off the original art she did from the Neil Gaiman Colouring Book –your chance to get original Coraline art from a wonderful artist:

I asked if they had Coraline in my school 's library and they said that I can't read because I'm too old
Now I'm sad because the only way I can read now is as a PDF, and reading PDFs SUCKS, I swear I can't stand that woman saying that High School students can't read some books because they're too childish
Coraline is the favorite movie of my inner child and they don't let my teen(almost young adult) self love more one of my favorite histories :(
And they ask what's wrong when I say that I'm gonna k1ll myself in September 7 at 11:32PM
Don’t kill yourself. Instead point out to the school librarian that Coraline won the 2003 Hugo Award for Best Novella, the 2003 Nebula Award for best Novel, and on the Guardian List of the 100 best novels of the 21st century it came in at #82. So you are definitely allowed to read it, however young you aren’t.

hello mr gaiman,
is the upcoming coraline remaster a remake using 3d models? or is it simply touching up the quality of the original?
hope youre having a good day 😊
It’s a “remaster” when you take the original and shine it up.
omg pls tell me it’s getting a theatrical rerelease! coraline is now legendary for its meticulous stereographic process that most ppl (myself included) slept on in its original run. i’ve been dying for a chance to experience it in 3d on the big screen. if not a theatrical run will it at least have a 3d version on disc that isn’t just with those red-blue lenses?
thank you either way mr. gaiman. it’s a stone cold classic any way you look it.
It is!

Hello Mr. Gaiman
I was reading my edition of Coraline again (because it’s amazing and I got a bit excited with the movie’s 15th anniversary) ; it’s an illustrated edition, and I noticed that her dad looks kind of like you, I was wondering, do you know if it was done on purpose ? I think it’s really cool !
Thank you for your time and all your amazing work, I hope you have a nice day !
JUST REVEALED: In honor of the film’s 15th anniversary, Laika is bringing back their very first movie to the big screen.
Remastered in 3D, “Coraline” will return to movie theaters this August.
