What would you say to people calling erasure of these cultures? I’m starting to see people it that on my dash… I’m just plain lost
I’d suggest, gently, that it has as much to do with cultural erasure as having Ricky Whittle and Ian McShane not perform in American Gods with their native English accents, or Emily Browning not perform with her native Australian accent. They are playing American characters in an American drama.
Good Omens is a very English drama, in a tradition of English comedy and literature, something our Scottish director, Douglas Mackinnon, was very certain about, and that was directly responsible for a number of his directing and style choices. (He talks about it in the Good Omens Companion, and in many interviews.)
In the book, Aziraphale is perceived as English, and Crowley was written as talking like me in 1989 (which is to say, without whatever American overlay I’ve picked up after living mostly in the US for almost three decades).
