dont-let-them-see-youre-afraid:

First of all guys, when a singer/author/etc. is exclusive to a particular region, you cannot directly blame the artist as if he is shunning you. An artist cannot simply point at a facility and say, “You. You shall sell my art.” An agreement has to be made between the artist and the facility. Contracts have to be drawn up. And yes, there’s a good deal of money involved as well. I am absolutely certain that if Neil could put a great new book in every single indie bookstore in the world he’d be at it in a split second. Unfortunately the process is exceedingly tricky. I used to work for a bookstore in the administration department. I had to process contracts, royalties, event information, and all the fun legalities in between. It is not easy. It is not cute.

Second of all, Neil had an exclusive UK-Only book offer during World Book Day. Did you miss it? Your problem. You don’t have to act all disgusted that the US is getting their turn. The UK had theirs. And I’m sure Neil will continue to find some great opportunities for book offers to be available in other countries if you give him time. He reads messages from fans too. Why not give him a suggestion of how he could spread some good literature to your country? And if he needs your help in making that happen, he will say.

Third of all, before you got angry and complained, did you post any comments asking fellow fans in the US if they could buy one for you and ship it to you? I have already offered a book to one international fan who asked on Facebook. Neil is married to a woman who wrote an [entire book] about not being afraid to ask for help, it’s quite good. Post a comment on the Facebook post where he made the announcement, and ask if someone would be willing to help you get your hands on a copy if you agree to pick up the tab. There are people who want to help if you draw them out.

I promise, this isn’t as hard as you’re imagining. All you see is an ocean between you and what you want. But you’re forgetting that there are other people on the other side of that ocean. Call to them.

This. All this.
