The one who wrote Coraline, and co-wrote the book of Good Omens and made the TV show, also the Sandman comics writer and co-creator who made the Sandman TV show. Quite nice really.
Found a July, 1992 issue of NOW Magazine (rip) last night. This ad for a Neil Gaiman signing at the old Silver Snail location popped out at me. Season of Mists hardcover had just come out. I was still a few months away from reading my first issue of The Sandman, discovering it during a repeat episode of Prisoners of Gravity on TVO.
I do. The plane landed late so I was interviewed by Prisoners of Gravity in the car from the airport to the Silver Snail. There was a dinner arranged at 8 pm, for various comics notables in the Toronto area, but they went to dinner without me because I was still signing. And by the time it was done, about 11pm, there was nowhere open that served food. There was a small packet of chocolate biscuits (er, cookies) on the hotel minibar, so I sat in the bathtub eating chocolate biscuits thinking darkly “this is the glamorous life”.
Fortunately a bit of the signing was captured by Prisoners of Gravity, so you get to see me being given a Barbie Whistle Torch.
