The one who wrote Coraline, and co-wrote the book of Good Omens and made the TV show, also the Sandman comics writer and co-creator who made the Sandman TV show. Quite nice really.
“‘I wrote a book once. It was a triffic book. It was nearly eight pages long. It was about this pirate who was a famous detective.
And I drew pictures.’ And then in a flash of largess, he added, ‘If you like I’ll let you read it. I bet it was a lot more exciting than any book you’ve lost. ‘Specially the bit in the
spaceship where the dinosaur comes out
and fights with the cowboys…”

The new Discworld series “The Watch” (AKA CSI:Ankh-Morpork) has been approved by Terry Pratchett and will go into production with BBC Worldwide.
The project to film GOOD OMENS is also going forward. A “mood reel” of images evocative of the story was put together by the production company and was shown as part of the announcement. (This was commonly being referred to at the convention as “the trailer”, though it wasn’t a trailer as such: it is way too early for there to be a trailer in the conventional sense, as no script material has been written, and therefore the’s no way for there to be genuine footage or any information about casting, etc. No release date was specified. The mood reel video said “COMING SOON”, so your guess as to when is as good as anybody’s.)
Meanwhile, let joy be unrestrained!
(PS: Terry is in excellent fettle. Had a long chat with him last night and the Master is still very, very much in the building, in case anyone was wondering.)
Diane Duane clarifies what was actually shown at the Discworld convention. Short answer, it wasn’t a trailer…
I just rediscovered how glorious this image is so excuse me while I laugh uncontrollably every time I look at it again.
It was taken in Kensal Green Cemetery in February.
Terry borrowed the white jacket from our editor, Malcolm Edwards, and grumbled that it did nothing to keep him warm on a very cold day.
“Sometimes you have to be cold to look cool,” I told him.
“It’s all right for you,” he said. “You’re wearing a leather jacket.”
“You could wear a leather jacket too.”
“I’m wearing white,” said Terry, pointedly. “That way, when they come after us for writing a blasphemous book, they’ll know I’m the nice one.”
(After the photo was taken we noticed the bat-winged hourglass, which we hadn’t seen during the photo session, and requested bat-winged hourglasses as a design motif in the book.)
With a TV mini-series based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens still in development (recently confirmed by Gaiman himself on Twitter), this “book title sequence” made by Ariana T. on Vimeo gives us a tantalizing idea of what we might expect. A motion graphics assignment for school based on her favorite book, Ariana used After Effects and Photoshop to put this visually striking video.
